Flemo Park, Now Till 4Ever, 2022

30” x 30

We must think of placemaking and community-building in order to build sustainable models for food justice. Growing up in Flemingdon Park, I can remember a truck that would drive around the neighbourhood with fresh fruits and veggies. The man who sold these foods kept his truck filled with okra, sweet mango and cassava, staples for community members. Everything was priced affordably so residents left with bags full of fresh food.

I brought that memory into my process of making this piece. Here, I capture the innovation, liveliness and beauty of Flemingdon Park.
